A useful web scraping example website helps you define a specific ecommerce question: which offers are comparable, what changed, and what evidence is still missing? This guide keeps ten marketplace examples, from supplier listings to consumer-facing offers, and explains how to turn observations into a defensible research brief. Start with our ecommerce web scraping guide for the broader collection workflow.
Originally published in 2025; platform documentation reviewed October 4, 2026. The original cover’s “Top 10” label identifies this selection, not a measured ranking. These are research examples, not ten websites granting unrestricted scraping permission.
What Makes a Strong Web Scraping Example Website?

Evaluate each candidate source against three practical criteria:
- Observable change: can you revisit the same product, seller and variant under comparable conditions?
- Defined fields: are price, currency, quantity, country and timestamp available and interpretable? Record missing values instead of guessing.
- Decision relevance: can the observations answer a scoped question without treating listings, reviews or ranks as verified transactions?
Confirm an authorized collection route and permitted use before automation. A seller export, approved API or licensed dataset may fit better than page extraction. API access can be limited to your own or consenting shops; public pages do not remove contract, privacy or reuse obligations. Retain source URLs and collection conditions so another reviewer can reproduce the comparison.
10 Web Scraping Example Websites for Ecommerce
The platforms below illustrate different questions. Field lists are proposed checks for a pilot, not promises that every country, listing or API exposes those fields. Availability and access must be verified for the specific project.
1. Alibaba (Supplier and Sourcing Data)
Alibaba is useful for framing a supplier shortlist. Its Verified Supplier documentation describes independent assessments of company and production information, including whether a business is a manufacturer, trading company or both. Alibaba also disclaims guarantees about product or certificate authenticity and assessment accuracy or timeliness. Treat a report as due-diligence input, not proof of current capacity or product quality.
Fields to verify:
- Minimum order quantity, unit of measure and volume-price tiers
- Supplier identity, business type, verification report and report date
- Claimed certifications, export markets and lead times; request supporting documents
- Product/variant identifiers and the date each offer was observed
Useful question: which suppliers meet the same specification and order quantity? Compare landed-cost assumptions before estimating margins: a retail price minus a listing price omits freight, duties, fees, returns and quality costs. Count suppliers within your documented sample; additional listings alone do not establish industry capacity or predict later price falls.
2. AliExpress (Cross-Border Retail Offers)
Alibaba Group describes AliExpress as a global retail platform connecting consumers with products from manufacturers. An individual retail offer still needs seller and product verification; its price is not evidence of factory cost.
- Exact variant, pack size, displayed price and currency
- Shipping destination, charge, delivery estimate and observation time
- Displayed seller rating and order-count label, where available
- Eligibility conditions for discounts or introductory offers
Useful question: how does the delivered offer compare with a matched local listing? Keep shipping, taxes, quantity and return conditions aligned. A rising displayed order counter or a low advertised price does not by itself establish profitable dropshipping, future demand or a supplier-to-retailer relationship.
3. TikTok Shop (Content and Commerce)
TikTok Shop is a useful example for separating product observations from creator and campaign reporting. Product, video and live-session records need distinct identifiers and timestamps; they are not automatically interchangeable datasets.
- Product/shop identity, variant and observed offer price
- Creator or content identifier when its relationship to the product is verifiable
- Views, likes or shares only where the approved source exposes them, with metric definitions
- Live-session observations and promotion start/end conditions, rather than an assumed complete history
The official creator authorization guide distinguishes creator access from seller access and requires the scopes needed by each API. A successful authorization callback does not imply that every requested scope was granted. Do not promise creator analytics or attributed sales from product listings alone.
Useful question: did engagement and observed offers change during a defined campaign? A correlation can motivate further investigation; it does not prove that engagement caused paid sales or that a spike will persist. Validate business outcomes with authorized order and campaign reports.
4. Shopee (Campaign and Price Observations)
For Shopee, frame a pilot around a specific country, campaign period and matched set of products. Separate the displayed offer from any buyer-specific voucher or checkout total.
- Base/discounted price, exact variant, pack size and currency
- Campaign labels and voucher conditions, including eligibility and minimum spend
- Displayed sold-count label and observation time; keep its definition separate from order reports
- Shop rating, response-rate or follower fields where actually available
- Keyword position with query, sort order and sponsored/organic context recorded
Shopee Singapore’s ad reporting definitions distinguish orders, conversions and items sold, with attribution conditions; even confirmed orders may later be cancelled, returned or refunded. Those seller reports are not the same as public sold counters.
Useful question: how does a matched offer change before, during and after a promotion? Ranking movement alone does not demonstrate manipulation or forecast margin compression. Add your own authorized cost and order data when assessing profitability. Our Shopee campaign planning example shows how to separate orders, refunds and costs.
5. Lazada (Brand and Marketplace Offers)
Lazada’s company overview distinguishes LazMall from the wider marketplace. Record the observed store status instead of assuming all sellers represent official brands or that Lazada prices are inherently more disciplined than Shopee prices.
- Seller/store identifier and the exact official-store or LazMall label shown
- Matched product variant, promotion label and price conditions
- Observed availability, with missing or inaccessible pages recorded separately
- Review count and observation time, plus brands present in the defined sample
Lazada’s seller authorization documentation ties API access to authorized seller stores and app credentials. This is not automatic access to competing sellers’ private inventory or orders.
Useful question: how do matched brand offers differ across the chosen stores and countries? A missing size or listing does not prove inventory depletion; review growth is not a transaction count. Report sample coverage and avoid extrapolating brand dominance from a small search result.
6. Amazon (Category and Sales Rank)
Amazon is useful for learning the difference between category sales rank and keyword search position. According to Amazon’s BSR explanation, Best Sellers Rank uses sales volume, gives recent sales more weight and varies by category and country store. Page views and reviews do not determine BSR; BSR is also distinct from search ranking.
- ASIN, exact variant, seller and country store
- Observed price and capture time; historical prices require retained observations or a licensed history
- BSR together with its category, separate from keyword position
- Review/rating counts with their timestamps and scope
Useful question: how do comparable offers and category ranks change within one store? BSR is not an exact units-sold field, and review growth alone cannot measure sales velocity. Do not use one Amazon sample as a proxy for worldwide ecommerce demand.
7. Walmart Marketplace (Catalog Matching)
Walmart’s authenticated Item Search API supports catalog matching by keywords or supported product identifiers. Its documentation limits default results to up to 40 matches and returns published items only. An empty response can mean no matching published item; it is not a complete inventory or sales record.
- Product identifier and exact variant for matching
- Seller identity, offer price and fulfillment context where returned
- Observed availability and the query or identifier used
- Promotion conditions and timestamps when available
Useful question: does a proposed catalog item match an existing published product? Use the documented response fields and access conditions for that workflow. Comparing offers cannot on its own prove brand-protection enforcement, unauthorized distribution or channel conflict.
8. eBay (Auctions and Fixed-Price Listings)
eBay includes both auctions and fixed-price offers. Its Browse API guide documents listing search and buying-option filters; distinguish active offers from completed, paid transactions.
- Listing ID, buying option, condition and included accessories
- Current asking price or bid, explicitly labeled as such
- Listing end time/duration where available, seller rating and shipping terms
- A completed-sale record only when a permitted source actually provides it
The eBay API License Agreement, sections 8 and 9 restricts derived statistics and pricing uses: specified aggregates and price modeling require prior written permission. An API key does not automatically authorize a market-pricing research product.
Useful question: which permitted listing attributes distinguish two otherwise similar offers? A current bid is not the final paid amount, and a set of asking prices cannot establish demand elasticity or buyers’ willingness to pay. Scope any secondary-market analysis to the access and use rights actually granted.
9. Etsy (Niche and Personalized Products)
Etsy can illustrate differences among variants, customization and seller-specific offers. Start by defining the product attributes being compared; a personalized item and a standard item are not necessarily substitutes.
- Material, size, variant and customization options
- Price, pack size, processing time and shipping destination
- Review text/count and shop history where available through the permitted route
- Product and shop identifiers for separating duplicates from distinct offers
Etsy’s Open API documentation limits Seller Apps to their registered shop. Broader app use follows the Personal App and Commercial Access review paths, with consent and scopes for private data. Its commercial review criteria prohibit bypassing the API through screen-scraping. Choose a permitted integration, rather than treating Etsy as an unrestricted scraping exercise.
Useful question: which attributes explain differences in your authorized offer sample? Premium prices and review themes suggest hypotheses; they do not prove purchase intent, market size or a customer’s price tolerance.
10. Zalora (Fashion and Variant Availability)
For a fashion comparison on Zalora, track variants rather than treating every size or color as the same available item. Keep country and delivery context consistent.
- Brand, model/style, size and color
- Observed regular/sale prices and promotion timing
- Availability of the exact variant at the recorded time
- Missing listings, replaced styles and restocks as separate observations
Zalora’s Seller Center product-template documentation describes structured files for product, price and stock management. These are seller-management workflows, not evidence of a public feed containing competitors’ stock or transactions.
Useful question: which variants in the selected range remain available during a markdown period? Distinguish an observed stock label from actual stock quantity. Disappearing sizes can have several explanations; they do not prove sell-through or reveal a brand’s future markdown strategy.
How These Example Websites Are Used in Practice

The original four uses remain useful when the source and comparison are well defined:
- Market research: describe the observed assortment and missing coverage before a market-entry decision.
- Competitive monitoring: revisit the same identifiers and flag substitutions or collection failures.
- Pricing analysis: compare equivalent variants, quantities and delivered-cost conditions within permitted uses.
- Expansion analysis: keep country, currency, tax and fulfillment differences explicit.
Use this worksheet before accepting a marketplace comparison. It records what the evidence supports and where a decision needs more information.
| Check | What to record |
|---|---|
| Access and purpose | Name the approved API/export/license or authorized page-collection route; check whether storage, reuse and the intended analysis are permitted. |
| Comparable unit | Match product, variant, pack size, condition, seller, country and currency. Record unmatched items separately. |
| Offer conditions | Keep shipping, tax and voucher eligibility visible. A displayed discount is not necessarily the price every buyer pays. |
| Time and coverage | Record collection time, the pages or identifiers attempted, successful matches, failures and missing fields. Avoid filling unknown values with zero. |
| Decision evidence | State the observed change separately from an explanation. Use authorized transaction/cost records to validate sales or margin conclusions. |
Fictional counter example: a listing shows 1,200 sold at the first observation and 1,250 at the second. The displayed difference is 50. Without a verified definition and comparable snapshots, report “displayed counter increased by 50,” not “50 paid orders.” The counter may represent units, a rounded figure or a different period; it cannot supply refunds, buyer count or profit. These invented values illustrate interpretation, not an actual marketplace result.
From Example to Scalable System
A pilot covering 100 products and a daily process covering 10,000 SKUs have different operational requirements; those numbers are illustrative, not Easy Data client results or measured capacity. Define the required freshness and coverage before choosing a collection schedule.
Plan for the practical issues that a small example can hide:
- Layout or API changes: version the parser and validate sample fields before accepting a run.
- Inconsistent records: retain identifiers, units and raw source values alongside normalized fields.
- Missing history: record timestamps and retain snapshots only for as long as the source terms and project requirements permit.
- Partial collection: log failed or unavailable records and avoid interpreting them as zero stock or zero sales.
Discuss the target country, fields, permitted source, schedule and sample acceptance checks with Easy Data. Our data scraping services page explains the service options; confirm platform coverage for your specific brief. For operating the process, read how to implement automated web scraping.
Conclusion
Choose an example because it answers a defined question, then verify access, field meaning and comparability. Marketplace observations can support research, but they do not automatically reveal demand, profits or future prices. The useful output is a traceable comparison with explicit missing evidence, followed by a decision that the available data can support.
